CALVES AND WEANED STIRKS TO £970

The rearing calf trade continues to please vendors with bull calves selling to £815 for an eight week old from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale with others from this home to £795 and £760. J Hoggarth & Son, Slyne sold British Blues to £770 and £755. Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £620 from AW&AM Park, Ellel and £600 from RE&P Miller, Garstang. Younger sub thirty day old calves sold to £445 for an Abeerdeen Angus from J&N Hull, Winmarleigh. Black and Whites were a nice trade selling to £410 for a seven week old from WN&D Smith, Cockerham with others to £365 from J&R Waller, Killington.
Heifer calves were also easy to place, selling to £600 for a Charolais from JE&SM Seedall, Mellor with British Blues at £590 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. Youngest sorts sold to £475 for a British Blue from J&R Waller, Killington and £390 for an Aberdeen Angus from J&N Hull, Winmarleigh.
Weaned stirks sold to £970 for a pair of British Blue bulls from TD&A Gardner, Great Eccleston with four month old British Blue heifers to £940 and £930 from AJ Metcalf, Out Rawcliffe.

OTM TRADE REMAINS FIRM

OTM heifers sold to 359.5p/kg from EW&A Bradshaw, Stalmine with a further four at 349.5p/kg from Barker Farms, Carnforth and TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe. OTM steers sold to 344.5p/kg from S&M Carter, Witherslack.
Cows topped at 339.5p/kg for a Charolais from WA Hodgson, Whinfell with other beef cows to 319.5p/kg for a Limousin from A&P Hodgkinson, Stalmine. Dairy cows sold to 294.5p/kg for a Montbeliarde from GJ&G Billington, Garstang with black and whites to 259.5p/kg from GR Park & Son, Whinfell. Plenty of black and whites were the top side of 220p/kg, with only harder worked sorts the bottom side of 200p/kg.
Top grossing was a Limousin cow at £2508.08 from A&P Hodgkinson, Stalmine with OTM heifers sold to £2306.70 from TJ Robinson, Milnthorpe. Black and Whites cows to £1978.54 from Lawsons Farm LTD, Cockerham with others to £1934.17 from JM&MH France, Littledale.

STORE CATTLE

Lancasters renowned weekly sale of store cattle saw a catalogue of 186 sell to an animated trade well ahead of vendors expectations. Hitting the top spot today would be regulator vendors TC Whiteside, Pilling with Aberdeen Angus steers to £2600 for a pair with another from this same good home at £2550, with his trailer load averaging £2583. Not far behind at £2520 was PM&ST Entwistle, Abbeystead for a single Limousin bullock. TR Prickett, Hutton Roof saw his four well farmed twenty two month old Limousin bullocks achieve £2500, with WA Hodgson, Whinfell at the same price for a twenty seven month old Charolais bullock. British Blue bullocks from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet saw his pen of four twenty two month old bullocks to £2420 with DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland at the same price also for a British Blue steer. Just a handful of dairy bred steers in today saw TH Wensley, Kirkham with a pair of Friesian sell at £1720.
Heifer store cattle saw no let up in trade with a trio of Charolais heifers at twenty two months old see a final bid of £2300 from local vendor DJ Townley, Stodday. A single Simmental heifer at twenty four months old from EW&A Bradshaw, Stalmine achieve £2150. T&E Garlick & Son, Freckleton saw their quality run of twenty four month old Angus cattle to £2150, with David Townley continuing his good days trading selling British Blue heifers to £2150.
A run of quality Hereford heifers from local supporters A&FM Bolland & Son, Ellel to £2000, with plenty of other pens of heifers achieving the late nineteen hundreds.
